Carmel’s holiday lights will be lit amidst music, jugglers, and a visit from Santa during the city’s annual “Holiday on the Square” event this weekend.

The festival will be held form 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Carmel Civic Square, according to a news release from the city of Carmel.

The lights will go on at dusk, around 5:45 p.m. If it rains, the event will be moved to the Carmel Fire Department headquarters’ fire bay, next to the square.

Santa will be stopping by to meet children and will bring with him two of his reindeer and other North Pole animals, the news release said.

And this time families can bring their own cameras for photos with Santa, but The Carmel Arts Council will take Polaroid shots as well.

The annual event, organized by the City of Carmel and the arts council, will also include carolers, balloon artists, and performances by the Clay Middle School Choir, Carmel Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet, Central Indiana Dance Ensemble and local singer Blair Clark, the release said.

For those who miss the summer Carmel Farmers Market, it will make a special return, holding a “Holiday Market” by selling holiday goodies such as caramel corm, fudge, mulled wine, waffles and salsa.

The city is also encouraging guests to share in the season of giving by bringing unwrapped gifts, excluding plush toys, to place under the “giving tree” in the gazebo, according to the release. The Carmel Fire Department’s Christmas Assistance Program will give the gifts to local children in need.

The first 400 children at the events will get little gifts of their own — a goodie bag filled with surprises.
