Longtime Johnson County Sheriff's deputy dies at 54

Anthony Meziere, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Department deputy for 30 years, died Tuesday after an illness of several months. He was 54.

Meziere, a resident of Franklin, also had been a volunteer fire and reserve police officer in New Whiteland.

As a deputy, his special duties and activities included the motorcycle unit and the scuba team.

He was the southeast district trustee for the Indiana Fraternal Order of Police and served on the state’s critical-incident response team.

Survivors include his wife and four sons; and his mother, stepfather, brother and sister.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Christian Church, 2045 Averitt Road, Greenwood, with burial at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.

Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. An FOP memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. at the church.
