Mark W. Messick, chairman of the White River Township Board, today formally called a special meeting of the board to consider the merger plan with Greenwood.

The meeting will be at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Township Building, 2929 S. Morgantown Road, Greenwood.

The Greenwood City Council on Monday voted to pass the plan along on first reading.

Two public forums have been scheduled for citizen input and questions, and the council also will hold an official public hearing before voting on the plan in December.

The merged city would become the state’s sixth-largest city, according to the plan prepared by a reorganization committee that has studied the issue.

The plan is online at the city’s Web site, www.greenwood.in.gov, and at the reorganization committee site, http://wrt-gw.org.
