Indy, are you hibernating?

It’s a rare occasion that I make it to Broadripple but it’s an extremely more rare occasion that I end up at The Vogue. It is a place that I reserve for midget wrestling and concert performances only. In an effort to support local events, I decided to make an exception and go to the official vitaminwater10 launch party last night. Indiana Jones, Orion, Limelight, and Action Jackson were all advertised as well as live performances from The Kayo/Mayer Experience and Alpha Live.

After a quick roll and a cocktail at FortyFive Degrees, Nikki and I headed to The Vogue around 9:30 and there was plenty of street parking – not a great sign for an event. Sure enough, we walked in and we’re the only people people there besides the bartenders for a good 20 minutes. Indiana Jones came on stage around 10 but aside from the group of friends we had joined up with, there wasn’t much else happening. DJ Orion got there around 10:15 so we stuck around and to see if things would pick up. The Kayo/Mayer experience was canceled due to some complications with band members getting into town on time, according to Kayo. At midnight we threw in the towel and called the game. Maybe things popped off later but the future wasn’t looking bright when we left.

Bars and venues are always going to have their off nights but I don’t understand how there could be such a low turnout at one of Indy’s most popular venues featuring several of the city’s top DJs. Is Indy just really this lame or are other factors playing a serious role in this equation? Indianapolis isn’t exactly known for having an buzzing social scene or titillating nightlife but I truly expect more out of you Hoosiers.

I’m curious why. Broke? Melt in rainy weather? Allergic to alcohol? Cuddled up on the couch with your boo? Fill me in, because I was feeling a little lonely last night.

I suppose it could have picked up some after midnight, but it is really surprising to me that there were so few people there. If I remember right, there were a couple hundred people that said they were planning on attending on the Facebook event listing.

That’s what I saw too, which considerably influenced my decision to attend. Maybe they thought it was at the OTHER Vogue…so weird. So disappointing.

Totally weird, Leslina… And you’re right, Ben, there were a kazillion RSVPs on the FB site. I don’t know what the heck happened. Chalk it up to the rain, I guess. But I’ve been tryna figure out this Indy nightlife thing for months! When you get an answer, someone give me a shout!

So disappointing! Let’s see what excuses we can come up with on a gorgeous summer night!
