Out With the Old, In With the New
The leaves aren’t the only things changing this fall. The Indianapolis Art Center will be introducing their new fall exhibition on August 28th which will feature both student and faculty artists who have received an award at the 2008 annual Student Show artist competition as well as two additional artists located inside the Art Center.
Shirley Carr, 2008’s Faculty of the Year, will have the honor of a solo exhibition located in the Art Center’s Ruth Lilly Library. Fourteen works will be available for both viewing and purchase. Shirley has been an instructor at the Art Center for 20 years and is a founder and cardinal fellow of the Watercolor Society of Indiana.
David Owen, three-time Best of Student Show winner will also exhibit his work in a solo exhibition in the Allen W. Clowes Gallery located inside the Art Center. David has taken oil and pastel classes at the Art Center for the past three years and is a member of the Brown County Art Gallery in Nashville, Indiana, and Gallery North on the Square in Bloomington, Indiana.
Transplanted to Indiana from all over the United States, Andrew Ball, Susan Downs, Pat Richardson, and Lisa VanMeter will have the privilege of exhibiting their work together in a group show exhibition. Viewers and buyers will be able to peruse the exhibition where they will be exposed to four different mediums and skill sets. All four artists are students of the Indianapolis Art Center.
Vibrant colors illuminate the energetic and playful abstract landscapes depicted in Gayla Hodson’s work. Inspired by downtown Indianapolis, Hodson’s work will also be on exhibit and for purchase at the Indianapolis Art Center during the fall exhibition.
Pat Herring’s show, entitled In the Eye of the Needle, will feature her works with etching. A recent newcomer into the world of printmaking, Pat’s subjects are diverse and straightforward, allowing the viewer to be easily entertained and captivated. Pat is a student at the Art Center and a member of the Indiana Artists Club, Watercolor Society and the Hoosier Salon.
