ZIONSVILLE — In what has become a tradition, Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard will visit a Zionsville school on Veterans Day.

Ballard will speak at Zionsville West Middle School at about 10:10 a.m. Wednesday.

“He will speak about the military and what Veterans Day means to students,” said Liz Drake, assistant to the Zionsville superintendent. “Being a Veteran himself, it something that is near and dear to his heart and we’re happy to have him.”

Ballard served 23 years in the Marines before retiring in 2001 as lieutenant colonel. He served in the first Persian Gulf War.

Ballard’s niece Katie Morris, a sixth-grader, attends Zionsville West. The past few years Ballard made a Veterans Day program appearance at Zionsville’s Stonegate Elementary where Katie used to attend and niece Kelly Morris is now a third-grader.
