Filling an empty bowl with soup tonight can help feed hungry families.

North Central High School will host the Empty Bowls event from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria, 1801 E. 86th St., said Basil Smotherman, visual arts department chair.

This is the sixth time that North Central has hosted the event that highlights that some people’s bowls aren’t full every night at dinner.

High school students from schools in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference and students from the Herron School of Art and Design, IUPUI, create the ceramic bowls.

Those in attendance pick a bowl and can fill it with vegetarian soup, chili or chicken tortilla soup for $7, Smotherman said. The bowls then go home with the buyer as a reminder of empty bowls around the city.

Empty Bowls is a national program that will raise money locally for the Ronald McDonald food bank, Smotherman said.
