Tikka Masala on a Budget
In an effort to be more budget friendly, I’m trying to take the “do it yourself” approach to daily activities. Sunday evening I was in the check out at O’Malia’s when I spotted a jar of tikka masala sauce in the basket of the woman in front of me. I asked her if she had tried the sauce before and she said she had and recommended it. I’ve been craving chicken tikka masala ever since and decided I would try my hand at it tonight for dinner. I scouted out the ’Patak’s Original Tikka Masala’ sauce, some mango chutney made by the same company, a package of chicken breasts and a bag of rice. It added up to just over $18.
I’ll admit for a meal in under 30 minutes, it wasn’t bad but it just didn’t satisfy my craving. When my dad and I go to India Garden it costs a little over $35, so we saved around $15. My dad really liked it but I think that man would eat anything I set in front of him. Personally, I’d rather save up and spend the extra cash to eat out or better yet it the lunch buffet for $7.95 to get my fix.
I didn’t love the meal but it felt good to save a little money. Call me crazy – I might try a manicure at home this week.
